Bagger Vance: Yeah, I always felt a man’s grip on his club just like a man’s grip on his world…

If you dont grip the club right the ball wont take a nice flight. Its simple science, the hands are the only connection that our body has to the golf club so you better grip it the right way. An amateur mistake that Is common amongst slicers and weekend hackers is gripping the club too tight. Whats too tight?? well on a scale of 1-10 your grip pressure should be in the 4-6 range. Compare gripping the club to holding a small bird in your hands. a grip pressure of 1 would be barely holding the bird and allowing it to fly out of your hands, a grip pressure of 10 would be choking the bird to death. You want to hold that bird hard enough that it wont slip from your hands, but easy enough that you wont hurt the young fellow. Once you mastered grip pressure you should start thinking about hand position on the club. Most slicers have a very weak grip. When i say weak i am not referring to “grip pressure” I am referring to how many knuckles you can see on your left hand (for righties) when you address the ball in a hitting position. If you are a slicer you probably cant see any knuckles or one at most. You need to adjust your grip so can see 2 to 2.5 knuckles on that hand, anymore than that and you will hook the ball.

I will leave you with a little rhyme about the grip,

grip the club like a mutha fuckin boss,

if you got gingavitis, remember to floss,

perly will teach you the way to play
